Curious so i asked a good friend of mine who was a little more into the dead than i was but still functional to bring me along to a concert and uh so he did and uh it was a pretty remarkable experience um i don’t know what i should tell you what was the most striking thing about uh the concert uh well not the concert i’d say the parking lot i had a friend who was really into them and he played me the records and everything like that and i thought yeah this is pretty cool and he said well you have to go to a show if you really want to find out what it’s all about and so we actually tried to go in 86 when they were touring with dylan and tom petty it was in buffalo we got the we thought it was a night but it was a day so we went like 100 miles an hour from here to buffalo just missed the dead so but i was at but got to see dylan but i also got to see the crowd and it was so it was such a wild scene you know. Tons of people everybody the jugglers you know people rolling dervishes and i said i gotta see this for real and that’s why i went well i think my first show was uh the meadowlands and um i had just gotten a job working at an indian clothing store in a mall and i showed up and i had an extra ticket and so i asked a woman who was working there if she knew anybody who wanted to go see the dead and uh she was she was the manager of the clothing store and she said well well yeah i’d like to go and so she quit her job and the two of us went off to see the dead at the meadowlands i was living in boston um some college friends said let’s go to see the grateful dead so we all got together and we’re really excited and the minute i got there and i heard the music i knew that i was a deadhead forever i just loved the music the best show i ever saw in philadelphia probably the most memorable for me is the first one.
